Japan’s oldest wooden western-style lighthouse

This is a hexagonal pyramid-shaped lighthouse built in 1877 on the south wharf of the old Sakai port, rising about 12 meters high. Although the lighthouse finished its role due to the reclamation of the surrounding area, it has been preserved as a symbol of Sakai. The Old Sakai Lighthouse is designated as a national Historic Site as the oldest wooden Western-style lighthouse standing at its original site.
