Kashihara-jingu

  • Tourist attractions

Based on descryptions in the Nihon Shoki (Chronicles of Japan), Kashihara-jingu was built at the site of Kashiharano-miya where Japan's first emperor, Emperor Jinmu, is said to have been enthroned. The vast precincts cover an area of roughly 500,000 ㎡. The shrine buildings, including the Honden, Heiden, Naihaiden, and Gehaiden, stand against a backdrop of deep greenery, exuding solemnity and grandeur, and contrast beautifully with the white sand. The white sand beautifully contrasts with the buildings. Shinrin Yuen Park, where some 150,000 trees of around 500 species are planted, is located on the east side of the shrine. To the south of the shrine is Fukada Pond, which reflects the beauty of each season.
