It mainly exhibits in 3 themes: the modern Japanese-style paintings, works related to Shiga prefecture, and Japanese and foreign contemporary artistic works.
The museum boasts excellent modern Japanese-style paintings by Taikan Yokoyama, who is a member of the Japan Art Academy (Nihon Bijutsu-in), Shunso Hishida, Gyoshu Hayami, and Yukihiko Yasuda, etc..
There is an original collection of about 40 masterpieces including 'The Surihari Pass' and 'Sisters' by Yuki Ogura, who is the local female painters of modern Japanese-style painting.
As well, the museum regularly holds various events, such as unique and high-quality special exhibitions, seminars, and lectures, etc..
