The building of “Former Yokohama Specie Bank” built in 1935, was renovated and opened as Kobe City Museum in 1982. The museum’s central theme is “international culture exchange, cultural contact of the east and the west and its change”. The Museum's collection boasts approximately 70,000 items including National Treasure of “Doutaku” (Bronze bells) and “Douka”(Bronze Halbards) excavated from Sakuragaoka, Nanban artworks, Ancient maps, glass works and historical materials. In "History of Kobe" ,while focusing on Kobe, the exhibition demonstrates the state of cultural exchange between Japan and foreign countries by setting up four sections divided by date. In "collection room" the museum's collection items are organized and displayed by themes. Kobe City Museum also holds various special exhibitions and events.
