Sonbun Memorial Hall (Ijokaku)
- Tourist attractions
A must-visit spot for history lovers. The Sonbun Memorial Hall is the only facility in Japan that honors Sun Yat-sen, a Chinese revolutionary, politician, and thinker. Introducing the relationship between Japan and Sun Yat-sen, and Kobe and Sun Yat-sen, and a valuable handwritten book by Sun Yat-sen is also on display. The modern Taisho-style is a must-see not only for its elegant exterior with the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge in the background, but also for its luxurious interior. The octagonal three-story tower is Japan's oldest timber-framed concrete block building and is designated as an important cultural property of the country and prefecture.
